Volusia, Flagler schools brace for cuts Lawmakers linger over budget woes As Florida lawmakers met Tuesday in a gloomy Capitol, more details emerged about how they will slash funding for dozens of programs to help close a $2.3 billion shortfall in this year's budget. Theater's Newest Curtain Call DeLand's ancient Athens reborn once more Tuesday was opening night at the Athens Theatre. It wasn't the first opening night at DeLand's 1922 vaudeville and silent-movie house, not by thousands. Nor was it the last. Not nearly. But there were times when it seemed the curtain might be stilled in the place that for so long has been the social and entertainment soul of a community.
